چکیده

ATING of any naturally outbreeding organism is commonly assumed to be AI at random in the absence of artificial controls. This assumption is basic to many of the mathematical models used in population genetics. I t may have validity for animals, particularly in populations of relatively long standing. In some plants, however, differences in time of maturity of the male and female flowers arising from either morphological pattern or environmental conditions may limit randomness of mating. In corn, for example, a wide variation exists in time of flowering in any open pollinated variety. This variation results in a series of subpopulations, each with some degree of physiological isolation but with opportunity for gene transfer between subpopulations. Departures from random mating would be of particular importance in new populations that might result from the production of synthetics or the truncated sample from any of the various recurrent selection techniques. Since these methods of breeding are being used extensively, it appeared that information on randomness of mating was of sufficient importance to warrant investigation.

AFLP, pathogenicity and mating type analysis of Iranian Fusarium proliferatum isolates recovered from maize, rice, sugarcane and onion

Assessment of eighty Fusarium proliferatum isolates obtained from maize, rice, sugarcane and onion using AFLP molecular marker separated the isolates into four distinct clusters according to their host’s. Isolates recovered from rice clustered in a distinct group. Isolates from sugarcane grouped in two distinct groups and isolates recovered from maize and onion clustered in a unit group. As wel...

تأثیر عمل پلی‌کراس روی ویژگی‌های زراعی و عملکرد نه نژادگان پیاز در اصفهان

Because of many small florets and protandry, cross pollination in onion which is a biennial plant, by using polycross method for breeding is suitable and easy. To produce polycross seed, bulbs of 9 self onion genotypes were planted in the shape of equilibrium lattice design for 9 treatments with 10 replications on May 2002. To study some agronomical characteristicss, the polycross seeds produ...

Genetic Variability and Geographical Distribution of Mycotoxigenic Fusarium verticillioides Strains Isolated from Maize Fields in Texas

Maize is the dominant cereal crop produced in the US. One of the main fungal pathogens of maize is Fusarium verticillioides, the causative agent of ear and stalk rots. Significantly, the fungus produces a group of mycotoxins - fumonisins - on infested kernels, which have been linked to various illnesses in humans and animals. Nonetheless, durable resistance against F. verticillioides in maize i...

Genetic analysis of Biochemical and Physiological Traits using Haymen’s Graphical Approach in Lines and F2 Progenies of Maize (Zea mays L.)

The diallel mating design is an important tool used by plant breeding programs to obtain information on trait inheritance. Knowledge of gene action, heritability and genetic advance from selection is a prerequisite for starting a breeding program for developing varieties of maize. Five maize S7 lines and their F2 progenies were studied in a 5 × 5 half-diallel crossing design to evaluate the gen...
